Saturday is market day in Avarua. The Cook Island’s Cultural market sells everything from seasonal fruit and vegetables, food ranging from waffles to meat cooked in the umu, the ubiquitous black pearls, pareu (sarongs) and t-shirts. One of the best things in the Cook Islands is that the people here are so laid back and friendly it’s lovely just to wander around the market and look at the stalls, there’s not the pressure to buy from the stall holders that you get in other places, you look, you say hello and if you want to buy you buy, if not, no problem.

The market on Saturday was also the opportunity for some of the younger dancers to show off their skills and raise some money for their groups.

We lay on the beach for a while in the afternoon (with a little noddies thrown in) but the weather has been a bit changeable again today and it became overcast, so we went for another ice cream :).
A quiet night tonight, just chatting about New Zealand with Catrina who is also staying at the guesthouse. Apparently their politicians are also in trouble for their expenses!
